Stainless Steel - Austenitic - 1.4404 (316L) Bar and Section
By using 1.4404 (ASTM 316/ 316L – ≈ SS2348) you get a corrosion resistant austenitic stainless steel with good formability. The steel is modified for machining and has very good corrosion resistance. The steel is often used for details within building and construction, process industry.
Typical application areas for 1.4404:
Easy to weld and machine
1.4404 can be readily welded by a full range of conventional welding methods. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but it can be hardened by cold working. Thanks to MAXIVAL® the steel is easy to machine and has significantly better machining properties compared to common austenitic steels.
Applications:
Initially developed for use in paper mills 316 stainless steel is now typically used in
Food processing equipment
Brewery equipment
Chemical and petrochemical equipment
Laboratory benches & equipment
